Custom Decorative Bulb RFQ Checklist for OEM/ODM Buyers

A practical specification brief for faster feasibility review, sampling and quotation

A clear request for quotation helps a custom decorative bulb project move from an idea to a reviewable specification. OEM and ODM buyers should describe the application, visible design, electrical requirements, expected quantity and approval process. Use this checklist for decorative glass bulbs, ST64 bulbs, T30 tube bulbs and custom letter or pattern lights.

1. Application and buying objective

State where the bulb will be used, the destination market and the desired effect when lit and unlit. A restaurant pendant, hotel bedside lamp, retail display and branded product have different priorities. Identify whether the enquiry is for a lighting brand, distributor, hospitality group, designer, contractor or another commercial buyer.

If the direction is still being developed, begin with the custom lighting guide and project support guide.

2. Product specification

RFQ field Information to provide
Bulb body Shape, diameter, length and fixture-clearance limits
Base Socket type, base size and preferred finish
Glass Clear, champagne, smoke gray, colored or other direction
Filament Standard layout, letter, logo, symbol or custom pattern

Provide drawings or reference photos and label them as approved artwork or visual references. For logos and lettering, follow the custom filament artwork guide. Use the bulb base compatibility guide when the socket designation is uncertain.

3. Electrical and light requirements

  • Input voltage and frequency for each destination market
  • Target wattage or power range
  • Desired lumen range and brightness direction
  • Color temperature or visible light-color direction
  • Dimmable or non-dimmable requirement
  • Known dimmer, fixture or multi-lamp arrangement

Separate configurations for different markets rather than combining incompatible requirements. See the voltage guide, color temperature guide and lumens and glare guide for measurable specification inputs.

4. Quantity, sample and approval

Provide the estimated total quantity and quantity per design, even when the forecast is not final. Ask the supplier to confirm the applicable minimum order quantity after reviewing the glass, base, filament, electrical setup and package.

Define what the sample must demonstrate: dimensions, glass color, unlit appearance, illuminated effect, base fit, dimming behavior or packaging presentation. Record the sample reference, revision date, tested electrical setup, approved points, open points and final approval owner.

5. Packaging, labeling and delivery

State whether the project needs neutral packaging, buyer-supplied branding or a private-label package. List required labels, barcodes, carton marks, inserts and languages. Packaging artwork should match the approved product configuration. Include the shipping destination and any handling concerns; see the packaging and private-label guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I request a quotation without final artwork?

Yes, if the enquiry marks the file as a reference and explains what still needs development. Final feasibility and pricing may depend on approved artwork and specifications.

Should I ask for MOQ before sending the specification?

You can ask, but the applicable MOQ may depend on the product and packaging configuration. A structured brief gives the supplier enough context for a useful answer.

How should quotations be compared?

Check that each quotation uses the same product revision, quantity, sample scope, packaging and delivery assumptions. Different specifications are not a like-for-like comparison.
